I know for a fact some parents just do not know how, they had no examples... Group homes to the streets, have children and hit and miss. If we as Elders reach out in a Non Threatening way... we can help, remember the old saying " You have to catch the fish BEFORE you scale it" Well that is what we have to do. Some parents are so busy just trying to "Survive" we can help by cooking a meal, going to a school program they can not make, sending a note.. or just $5.00 for their childs lunch.. THAT MAKES A BIG Difference TRUST ME . A lot of us do not help because "they think" it has to be something BIG and meetings etc... by the time they get it all down and approved the school year is over... ( and we may have lost a child) that parent that is stressed needs your words of encouragement NOW, your hug NOW... I am all for planning and meetings ... but life is still going on, and those who can work from their trunk and like hands on... show some LOVE get cleared by the District.. (Back Ground Checks, Live Scans, TB Testing) and GO FOR IT... All children are OUR Children! Remember "Six Degrees of Separation?" Most of our children are not even getting their NINE Basic needs met! One of those ... Celebration, Rest, Play... another is Empathy...
> These do not COST a Thing but mean so much, sometimes children just want someone to listen to them... PERIOD... And recognize them being more than a Number in a Lunch Line! The SMILE LaDy is there for ONE child or THIRTY Children... Presentations or Workshops..
(Teaching them how to be a CHILD... not a miniature grown up...)
