Debra A. Johnson Founder

The founder of SMILE a non-profit 501 c 3 Corporation and Independent Beauty Consultant. She is a wife, mother of five adult children, and grandmother of three grandsons’ and a granddaughter. Besides placing God first and her family second, she continues her work with youth to ensure a brighter future for ALL children.  She was a Foster Parent from 1985-1991, and retired from a prominent telecommunications company after over 30 years of service, she is currently pursuing her passion as "The SMILE LaDy" Supporting, Motivating, Investing, Loving, Educating our youth!  Her desire is to help Youth pursue their dreams, teaching them basic etiquette, proper interviewing and oral presentation/social skills accomplishing these goals through real life lessons and dramatics. Debra is currently attending Pasadena City College (PCC) to eventually obtain her degree in Forensic Social Work and Public Relations also learning to work with both Deaf and hearing students.  In addition, she produces her own Local cable TV talk show "SMILE and Spread A Little JOY!" out of Time Warner in Eagle Rock Channel 98 and Pasadena Community Access Channel 56 (PCAC).  A positive show where youth from 2 to 102 yrs old can showcase their talent or host the show. Furthermore it is a place where our elders/mentors can share their wisdom to help better our future.  Her main goal is to spread her SMILE around the world helping youth fulfill their dreams.  The first question she usually asks is "What is it you love doing so much, you would do it even if you did not get paid?" Then she builds a program from there.  She is a volunteer of the Youth Motivational Task Force (YTMF) in Pasadena Unified School District.  Debra has served as a youth Mentor at New Corinthians Baptist Church in Pasadena.  She is also a proud member of NAACP- Altadena branch, Black Child Development Institute (BCDI)-Pasadena, HearZero Deaf Advocates (HZDA), San Gabriel Valley Black Business Association (SGVBBA), Pasadena Tournament of Roses Associate Member and selected as Woman of the year 29^th District, by Congressman Adam Schiff Representing Altadena CA, Debra Truly believes in supporting family and community before going elsewhere.  Her favorite quotes:  "As I learn I teach" Mary McLeod Bethune, and "It takes a whole village to raise one child" African Proverb.

Lena Marie - Artistic Director

As the artistic director for SMILE Prods I have the opportunity to guide, teach, and shape youth using art as my primary tool. Art in dance, painting, and poetry. Lena has worked with a number of organizations assisting in leading our youth, our future in a positive direction.  My most recent position, as Therapeutic Child Care Specialist, was working with youth with behavioral problems and those who were abused and neglected. I served as a role model and parent exhibiting the characteristics of a healthy adult and teaching them the traits they need to possess in order to succeed in daily life. Some of these skills were proper communication verbally and through body language, problem solving, and how to maintain healthy friendships with adults and their peers.  In addition to working as a TCCS, I also have held positions as a praise dance instructor and a STAR (Students Talk About Race) Instructor. With all three of these positions I used art to relate the lesson to the children to better their understanding as well as helped them to express themselves using the very tool they were taught with, ART.

I am a hair artist and image consultant helping others to display their unique beauty inside and out. I also create accessories and personal accents that emphasize each persons beauty. I am a queen to my strong GOD fearing
king! I am a proud mother of three beautiful, strong, intelligent GOD fearing children two princes and one princess! I hope to continue to help others as a friend and entrepreneur while walking and living as a illustration of God's glory and greatness. I thank my husband for his constant encouragement and patience. I thank my mother for the helping me to recognize my gifts and teaching me many things. I thank my siblings for their support.
